Foundation Awards for Day Pupils

Several Foundation Awards are made each year to day boy and day girl applicants for entry at 13+ and 16+. The purpose of Foundation Awards to widen access to a Rugby School education for local children. 

Successful candidates for a Foundation Award will meet three key criteria:

  • They will show during our admissions process that they will thrive in our academic and co-curricular school life
  • They will live within 10 miles of Rugby School, excluding the City of Coventry
  • Their parents will be assessed as being eligible for means-tested bursary assistance towards fees to augment the 10% fee remission carried by the Award

The level of support provided can be augmented up to 100% of the day fees subject to means assessment; a Confidential Statement of Financial Circumstances must be completed and should be submitted to the Bursar before the examination closing date.


These Awards qualify exclusively for entrance to Town House (boys) and Southfield (girls). The examination takes place in early February of Year 8.

In accordance with government guidance Rugby School is presently closed although our students are studying a full timetable of remote lessons and co-curricular activities. We are still 'virtually' open for all our Admissions services and our Housemasters and Housemistresses, along with other teaching staff, are all available to meet via video calls.
