450 Bike Ride

An Incredible Experience

In the summer of 2015, Charles Cockerton and I were discussing ways to celebrate the Rugby 450 anniversary here in California. After a beer or three, we settled on a 450 mile seven day bike ride, despite a complete lack of experience organising such an event or riding anywhere close to that distance.

Two years later, with much assistance from family, friends and Angela and Kerry in the Development Office, the ride became a reality. With O.R.’s participating from Northern and Southern California, Minnesota, Connecticut and England, a dozen riders set off from Charles’s house on September 24th. Given this was a celebration, not a race, participants were encouraged to ride as many days as work or other commitments allowed.  Electric bikes were also permitted, though slightly ridiculed. However, ridicule turned to envy on the second day as the group climbed the 1500 foot Trinity Grade from Glen Ellen over to the Napa Valley.   more

The Rugby School community will physically re-unite in September. We are proud of our staff and students who have engaged in a full, virtual timetable enabling us all to flourish during this challenging time. Plans for a safe return of the whole School community will involve comprehensive risk assessments and a commitment to the BSA COVID-SAFE Charter. Find out more about our bespoke virtual visits and Open Days here
