ORRTC v Cambridge 17 September 2016

Another hugely enjoyable match at Cambridge saw Rugby finish a close second winning both doubles but losing the 3 singles.

Those clever people at Cambridge organised a very well balanced series of matches all playing off level. However the three Rugby players who are also members of Cambridge each lost their singles. Michael Firth lost the first 6 – 0 6 – 0, Simon Hirtzel improved on this score but lost 6-2, 6-0. James Firth narrowly lost the third 5-6, 6-1, 5-6 but the trend was improving. Oliver Buckley and Charles Fraser won a high quality match 5-6, 6-4,6-5. The final doubles saw Stephen Goss and Fred Satow overcome the very strong pairing of the current Cambridge captain, Jimmy Campbell and the club’s President George Pearson 6-5 6-2.

Thanks to all at Cambridge for a superbly organised and enjoyable event.

Micheal Firth (W 74-78)
