ORRTC v Holyport 15 January 2017

Result ORs won 3-1

Match 1: Mark Piper & Fred Satow v Stephen Goss & Rupert Derham – 5/6 6/5 5/6

Match 2: Andrew Parkinson & Neil Duckworth v Richard Bray & Oliver Buckley – 6/2 6/5

Match 3: Alan Everett & Barnaby Briggs v Vaughan Williams & Paul Yates – 4/6 2/6

Match 4: Peter Ohlson & Barnaby Briggs v Dick Warner & Nigel Stafford – 3/6 6/4 4/6

The first match was very tightly contested with some excellent play from both sides. Fred Satow – another OR - this time playing for the Home team.

Buckley and Bray were ahead 5-3 in the second set but made crucial errors at the wrong times and according to Stephen Goss: “snatched defeat from the jaws of equality”, which I suppose hints at his lack of confidence that we would have won the third set anyway. Vaughan and Paul played well, Vaughan returning to the game after a period of injury and showing no sign of ill-effect. Peter Ohlson for the opposition stormed back in the second third of the final match taking the second set and a lead in the third, but some excellent hitting from Nigel and desperate retrieving from Dick forced the result back our way. Indian curries provided for lunch by Oliver as a change from the usual Thai range.
