School Life

Polo, Riding and Livery

Rugby School has an unparalleled Polo history and access to the very best facilities, as the only school in the UK to offer two professional quality Polo pitches on site, the oldest still in use in the UK, which were once the haunt of HRH the Prince of Wales (later HM King Edward VIII), HM King Alfonso XIII of Spain, the late Duke of York, and Sir Winston Churchill.

We have a long-standing and close relationship with Rugby Polo Club at Onley Grounds (, which is just a 15-minute drive away; as it is the only club in the UK with two Polo arenas (one of which is indoors), this means that, with their two grass pitches and the two of our own, we have access to facilities unrivalled by any other school.

At Rugby we are proud to encourage newcomers to the game as well as promoting experienced players, such as our current Captain who has played for England at U21 level. Pupils are able to ride or play Polo up to four days per week; lessons are available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons and evenings, meaning that they can be a pupil’s primary sporting commitment or they can be flexibly fitted around other school activities. Once players reach a certain level they can also take part in Club Chukkas on Friday evenings, pitting themselves against many high quality players and further developing their individual and teamwork skills.

Rugby Polo Club offers full livery at competitive rates, with two yards and a brand new stable block, as well as an on-site equine vet and Farrier. This means that Rugby pupils can bring their horses to school with them, safe in the knowledge that they will be properly and professionally looked after. Please contact the club for further details.
