A multi-million pound programme of investment has yielded facilities which are among the best in the country, and pupils enjoy coaching from nationally and international know figures on a daily basis.
It is not surprising that Rugby School’s record of sporting achievement is extensive, with teams and individual pupils regularly competing at county and national level.
The famous Close, on which the game of Rugby Football was first played, is located at the heart of the School and is revered by the many leading players and teams from all over the world who visit the School and often train on it.
In addition to playing fields that accommodate up to 13 Rugby pitches, the School has two astro turf Hockey pitches, three artificial championship Tennis courts and seven Netball courts, all floodlit. There are extensive cricket facilities which include five squares, eight artificial nets, 12 grass nets and six indoor nets.
Athletes have access to facilities which host National League athletics matches, while the School’s Sports Centre comprises of a large fitness equipment suite, large sports hall and Swimming pool, together with three squash courts and two Rugby Fives. The school has a second indoor hall in the sixth form Collingwood Centre and also has two Rackets courts, two Polo pitches, a traditional, sprung floor gymnasium and a Golf practice facility with a green and nets.
