ABOUT THE HOUSE
Dean House is home to more than 50 talented girls and is full of vibrancy, energy and contentment. The house culture is based on kindness, aspiration and self-belief, and during the five years the girls spend here they are encouraged to grasp every opportunity that Rugby School offers and to immerse themselves in their academic, creative and sporting endeavours.
Dean is a place the girls are proud to call their home, a place defined by those who live in it and a where difference as well as individual success is celebrated. Dean girls strive for excellence in all that they do, whilst it is always instilled in them that it is better to have tried and failed, then to never to try at all.
Special features of Dean are the stunning garden, substantial study bedrooms, and a modern, light and airy interior. The girls share small dorms in their first year with their own private study room from Year 10. Its central location on the campus and proximity to the Music Schools allow the girls to take full advantage of the sports facilities and study areas. Dean girls enjoy regular success in inter-house competitions across music, sport and academic events.
Our emblem is the Heron, a graceful bird which represents determination and tranquillity, complemented by the House colours of purple and green.
Leanne Milner’s pastoral and boarding experience spans seven years. She joined Dean House in 2018 having been Assistant Housemistress in Griffin House. A Designated Safeguarding Lead, Leanne and her team are committed to providing exceptional care and support to all the girls in Dean.
A Geography teacher, Leanne has a PhD in Physical Geography, which involved exploring some of the world’s most remote rainforests. Along with her fiancé Lee, who also teaches Geography at the School, she likes to travel to new places along with her favourite countries of Hong Kong, Australia and Peru. Leanne has competed to a high level in swimming and now participates in road and cross country running events. She has completed the London Marathon and was part of the Leicestershire Ladies Road Running Division. She currently coaches hockey, netball and athletics here at Rugby and also enjoys baking, reading and walking.
Dean's feline resident, a black cat called Bernie, is exceptionally cuddly and likes to follow the girls around the garden at every opportunity! Leanne feels especially privileged to live in Dean with such a talented bunch of girls and really enjoys helping them to develop into caring young adults.
Alice Janulewicz joined Rugby School four years ago to teach Design Technology. She grew up in North Yorkshire and studied for a degree in Furniture and Product Design at Northumbria University. When she is not in the workshop, Alice can usually be found outside coaching netball, hockey or sailing. In her spare time, she is a keen rowing coach, netball player and globe trotter.
Matron Leanne Hearn has a wealth of experience caring for people of all ages having previously worked as a teaching assistant in primary school and in Warwick Hospital A&E department. A mother of two boys and travel enthusiast, Leanne can be found spending time with the girls, teaching them to sew or bake.
Kay Yafai, deputy matron, has 15 years’ experience in Dean. She loves to crochet and knit as well as supporting the girls in all their co-curricular endeavours. Our matrons provide a tremendous amount of care for all the Dean girls.
