Drama and Theatre Studies

Drama and Theatre Studies continue to develop and thrive at Rugby. Pupils push the boundaries of imagination in their practical work and break new ground in creativity. Devising work themselves, they explore ideas that are important to them and demonstrate these with intense theatricality. Pupils are conversant with modern theatre practice, attending regular theatre trips to the Birmingham Rep, Warwick Arts Centre and Leicester Curve. These diverse experiences of dance, physical theatre and texts inform their own work and help to inspire a contemporary approach to making theatre.

The professionally-equipped theatre also contains a studio space, classrooms, a design workroom, a large workshop, and full technical facilities. Drama is also taught in the nearby Dance Studio, which offers a mirrored space for rehearsals and physical work. We have two full-time technicians, one permanently based in the theatre.

Drama and Theatre Studies is offered throughout the School and at GCSE and A level. There are a myriad of opportunities for pupils to become involved in extra-curricular drama as well as annual House Plays and a full calendar of productions including two musicals per year and an impressive Arts Festival at the end of each Trinity Term.

COVID-19 Update

In view of the fast-moving situation regarding the impact of the COVID-19 virus, the Executive Leadership closed Rugby School and Bilton Grange sites from 18.00 on 17 March.

Plans are in place to teach students remotely until the leadership team is in a position to confidently re-open the School sites.
