SEN and EAL

We are committed to providing an optimum learning environment in which all students can succeed, including those with additional needs.

In the Middle School, students may have learning development lessons in a small group in place of one subject option, while in the Upper School these lessons may be taken during study periods. Support sessions are available as needed, and a Learning Development teacher is assigned to each boarding House.

We offer tailored support through small-group lessons, individual weekly sessions with a Learning Development teacher and targeted help for specific difficulties. A wide range of resources is used, with a particular focus on literacy, including assistive software such as ClaroRead, Dragon voice recognition and mind-mapping programmes, alongside more traditional materials.

Classroom teachers receive regular INSET training and are kept informed about each student’s strengths, needs and effective strategies to support progress.

Our provision also includes support for students with English as an additional language and specific learning difficulties. We help students develop their English, advise classroom teachers and prepare students for IELTS examinations ahead of progression to a British university.
