Rugby 360
Our Rugby 360 programme was given its name as it made a circle of our service partnerships which had previously concentrated on our students – around 500 every week – going out into the town and local areas to help at care homes, hospitals, charity shops, environmental organisations, animal care centres, food banks and young people’s clubs, and to visit local primary schools to help pupils with reading, Modern Languages, Science, Classics and Music. This, of course, continues.
Our school is based in the middle of Rugby town – no ivory towers, no high walls - and we have a keen sense of being part of it. We have partnerships with 23 local schools – secondary, primary and Special Needs – across Warwickshire and Northamptonshire. We welcome local children (and their parents) to our campus to share our sports facilities, enjoy our drama and creative writing workshops, and to have catch-up sessions in Maths, Modern Languages, Art & Design and Science.
Service is central to a Rugby education.
Rugby is a very musical school. We provide musical opportunities to a number of primary schools as part of our ‘Primary Music’ initiatives. ‘Hands on Brass’ is led by our scholars, supported by a specialist music teacher. The first session at a new school is full of the sounds of animal horns, bugles, trombones and trumpets to demonstrate the many sounds of brass and, thereafter, each child is given an instrument to play in a weekly band.
We have also developed ‘Hands on Strings’ and ‘See it, Sing it’. Each musical programme leads to an end of term concert at Rugby School.
We offer free tickets to children and adults who live in Rugby to come to our theatre, the Macready Theatre in the middle of town, to watch productions by our Performing Arts Department.
Pupils from local primary schools are invited to the free arts workshops that form part of our annual week-long Festival on the Close held in June. This is when our famous rugby pitch turns into the location for a celebration of culture, creativity and community with performances and workshops covering every aspect of drama, dance and music.
Children from local schools also enjoy indoor and outdoor sports at Rugby School with access to our Sports Centre and swimming pool.

Our partnerships
Our partnerships are wide-ranging, including with 24 local schools, two local schools for children with additional needs, the Bradby Club for young people in Rugby and the Rugby Portobello Trust, a youth and family support charity in London.
Creativity, Activity and Service – embedded in the Rugby School curriculum - is an essential element of the International Baccalaureate Diploma so if you are considering taking the IB you will, by the time of your decision, be familiar with this part of the Diploma.
Our service programme has a profound influence on students and, in some cases, has influenced their career choices.
