Life at Rugby School starts in House
Every student at Rugby School joins one of our boarding or day houses. Each House has its own character and traditions, and they are far more than a place to live. They are communities where students feel at home and form friendships that last well beyond their time at Rugby.
Within this supportive environment, students begin the important work of discovering who they are and where their interests may lead. We help them to flourish in their academic subjects, to take full advantage of the many co-curricular opportunities available and to feel supported at every stage of their journey.
Life in House is lively and varied. Students take part in a wide range of events, from competing in the House Push Cart race, performing in the House Singing competition to representing their House in House Cross Country and Sports Day. Throughout the year there are also social occasions, from formal House dinners to trips further afield, which allow students to come together, build friendships and enjoy time away from the classroom.

You'll be busy at Rugby School. Music, sport, and the performing arts are within the curriculum rather than paid extras. We also have a large number of societies and clubs, many of them student-led, where you can explore new interests or develop your passions.
Academic life
Learning at Rugby School is driven by curiosity and shaped by strong relationships between students and teachers. Classrooms are places of scholarship, independence and challenge, where students are encouraged to think deeply and develop the habits that prepare them for university and life beyond School.
Leadership and service
Leadership at Rugby School grows from contribution. Students take responsibility within their Houses, in teams and through service in the wider community. They learn to listen, to act and to support others. Service is a central strand of School life and helps students understand their place in the world and the difference they can make.

Chaplaincy
Some of the most special moments at Rugby are when the whole School comes together. Chapel sits at the heart of this - from morning prayers to Sunday services and memorable occasions throughout the year. Our Chaplains offer time, space and guidance for reflection, whilst nurturing kindness, purpose and a strong sense of right and wrong.
A global outlook
Rugby is a diverse and outward‑looking community. Students learn alongside peers from many countries and cultures and gain a natural confidence in engaging with the wider world. Partnerships, exchanges and global projects broaden perspectives and prepare students to move through life with curiosity and awareness.
Lasting friendships
What begins as day‑to‑day companionship in Houses, classrooms and on the sports fields becomes a global network that supports them long after they leave the School.
The Rugbeian Society connects former students around the world. Through events, reunions, formal dinners, business forums, sporting fixtures and a strong programme of mentoring and internships, it offers meaningful ways to stay in touch with one another and with the School.
This network grows with every year group. It provides steady support for personal and professional development, whether a former student is seeking an internship, preparing for an interview or widening their professional connections. The friendships made at Rugby School become a community for life.
Preparing for life beyond Rugby School
We ensure that every student develops the life skills they will need at university and beyond. Our Learn to Lead programme, our Careers Accelerator programme, our Resilient Leaders programme and our first-class Futures Advisory Service support students as they grow in confidence, independence and purpose. Each initiative builds essential life skills, strengthens character and develops authentic leadership.
Our Artificial Intelligence course gives all students a clear understanding of AI and the ways in which it can support, and sometimes challenge, their lives. The course offers a balance of practical activities and thoughtful philosophical discussion, encouraging students to engage critically and responsibly with emerging technology.
Ultimately, these experiences prepare the whole person, building character, judgement and resilience for life beyond school.

Jacob Bethell (W 17-22)
Jacob Bethell is a Barbados‑born left‑handed batting all-rounder who plays for England Cricket across all formats and became the nation’s youngest-ever T20 captain in 2025.
Ella Mills (B 04-07)
Ella Mills is the founder of Deliciously Ella, a pioneering plant-based food brand that grew from a personal blog into a best-selling range of books, products and restaurants. She is widely recognised for her work in making plant-based eating accessible and for her entrepreneurial approach to health and wellbeing.
Dolly Alderton (G 04-06)
Dolly Alderton is an author, journalist and podcaster, best known for her bestselling memoir Everything I Know About Love. Her work explores relationships, identity and modern life with wit and honesty, earning her wide critical and popular acclaim.
