If a Computer Science Scholarship is awarded, the student will be required to study Computer Science at GCSE and subsequently at A-level or IB Diploma Higher Level and will be encouraged to apply for a university course related to Computer Science.
- Candidates will be required to sit a written Computer Science paper. This will be a paper of one hour, examining entry-level GCSE computer science skills. Candidates will also be required to take an extra online Maths exam.
- Candidates will take part in a practical programming exercise that will be set by the Rugby School Computer Science Department. Candidates will be expected to complete this using the Python programming language.
- In addition, there will be an interview including a review and discussion of the candidate’s portfolio lasting about twenty minutes. We would like to see complete projects with documentation where appropriate. Any other relevant computer science work should also be brought.
- Candidates from overseas or who attend schools that do not prepare for Common Entrance will be required to sit our entrance tests in English, Maths and Reasoning prior to the assessment day.
Award and Augmentation
There is no fee remission for successful scholarship awards. However, if a scholarship is awarded, fees may be augmented by means-tested bursary support of up to 100% of boarding or day fees for UK residents.
Please note that applicants must first register their application with the School. The bursary application form will then be sent directly to you, and bursary applications must be completed and submitted by the scholarship application deadline.
Applications submitted after this date may not be assessed until after scholarship assessment results have been released. In such cases, it will be at the School's discretion whether a place is held while you await an outcome.
