About the House
Sheriff recently underwent a major 18-month programme of renovation and refurbishment has recently been completed, which sensitively preserves the charm and character of this fine 1930’s building, whilst providing the boys with first-class boarding accommodation and facilities. Sheriff sits in grounds and lies close to the other boarding houses, sports facilities, Science, Art & Design Schools, and the Collingwood Centre. The House is located within a five-minute walk to the town centre or to the countryside.
The large central atrium with adjacent outdoor quad provides a perfect hub for the boys to socialise in with their friends. In addition, there are five smaller common rooms, six kitchens, a pool room, tutor room and a music practice room. The boys and staff eat together in the panelled dining room alongside their peers, staff and visitors.
The House garden provides a perfect arena for boys of all ages to play together in their free time with their friends.
Will Nicholl, Housemaster
Will Nicholl graduated from the University of Durham with a degree in Classics and a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Buckingham, where he continues to study towards a doctorate. His research has led him to deliver professional development courses in schools and for the Boarding Schools Association.
Will arrived at Rugby School in 2021 as Head of Classics and became Housemaster of Sheriff in 2024. He joined the school after eight years at Clifton College, where he was a boarding Deputy Housemaster, Head of Years 10-11 and Head of Soccer.
When he is not teaching Latin, Greek or Classical Civilisation, he runs the School’s rackets programme, coaches cricket and referees football and soccer
Will and his wife are actively involved in their local church, have two young daughters. As a family, they enjoy unwinding in North Devon, travel and watching live sport; Will is hoping his love of Oxford United will rub off on the rest of his family.
