Joining in Year 9
If you are coming to Rugby School at 13 (Year 9) you will be joining what we call F Block. As you continue through the School, you will join E Block, then D Block and then, for two years, the Sixth Form (which we call The Twenty - XX).

Learning The Rugby Way
How you study in the F Block year will set the academic pattern for the rest of your time at Rugby School. Across the curriculum the material will be intellectually challenging. You will have the opportunity to discover new subjects or dig deeper into those you find the most interesting. You will start to develop an attitude to and way of learning that may be different from what you are used to.
Our teachers will encourage you to ask questions, not just answer them, to take intellectual risks and learn from your mistakes (always getting it right means that you are not being stretched enough!) You will be expected to think about what you have learned (not just accept it) and be prepared to be challenged by your fellow students (not just the teachers).
Your learning journal
You will keep a ‘learning journal’ which you’ll discuss with your tutor every week. This will cover not just what you have learned in the classroom but also the enrichment activities that you will take part in when we break down barriers between subjects and learn outside the classroom.
Project work
You will work on projects throughout your F Block year, an individual one and a collaborative one, and present them at the end of the year to staff, senior students and your peers.
Rugby Learner Profile
At the end of the F Block year, you will complete our Rugby Learner Profile Diploma. This will prepare you for the next stage of your time at Rugby and is similar to the experience that graduates go through when applying for employment.
The Rugby Learner Profile focuses on developing intellectual dispositions that prepare students not just for exams, but for life beyond school. It encourages pupils to be versatile and resilient learners, inquisitive and reflective thinkers, confident collaborators, and globally minded individuals who can adapt, question, and contribute thoughtfully in an ever-changing world.
F Block curriculum
During your F Block year, you will study English; Mathematics; Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics); History; Geography; Philosophy & Theology; Art, Design & Technology; Drama; and Floreat (a personal development programme). You must also choose one Modern Foreign Language and two other subjects.
