Rugby School: Leading the Game with Elite Coaching
As the birthplace of the game, Rugby School is proud to offer an exceptional standard of rugby coaching, ensuring the very best development opportunities for our students.
Our core coaching team is made up of Brett Daynes, Alex Grove, Mike Bayly and Dylan Hartley.
Brett Daynes joined Rugby School in 2021 as Head of Girls’ Rugby. Brett is a former Coventry RFC forward with over 150 league appearances, including captaining the side and helping secure promotion to the Championship. This year, Brett has stepped into the role as Head of Rugby and will continue to develop the School’s rugby strategy.
Alex Grove, a Rugbeian and former Scotland international rugby player, joined Rugby School in 2024 as a rugby coach and is now one of our Lead Rugby Coaches. Alex previously represented Worcester Warriors from 2006 to 2016, making 152 appearances and becoming one of the club’s longest-serving players.
Mike Bayly, Lead Rugby Coach and DHm of School Field House, is a former professional player for Western Province and Boland in South Africa. He brings extensive coaching experience from South Africa and Italy, where he notably coached the Bulls to major Super Rugby titles.
Dylan Hartley, former Northampton Saints and England rugby captain, joined the School in 2024 as the High-Performance Lead, coaching and mentoring the School’s top teams. With 97 caps, Dylan is one of the most capped players in national history and brings a wealth of knowledge to the School.
