Stan X students visit School of Biosciences at Birmingham University.

Last Friday, Rugby School Stan X students visited the University of Birmingham, where they met with Dr Yun Fan and explored the School of Biosciences and the Birmingham Fly Facility.

The afternoon included a guided tour of the University and a lecture delivered by Dr Fan, who discussed his fruit fly research. Students also gained insight into the work of PhD researchers within the laboratory, as well as hearing from Dr James McDonald of the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BiFOR).

Dr Fan kindly guided the Stan X group through the laboratory facilities and wider university campus.

The visit was both engaging and highly beneficial for students, who are currently undertaking related research in collaboration with Stanford University, using fruit flies to support research into diabetes and various forms of cancer.
