From Highlands to High Peaks: XX Students Take on the Three Peaks Challenge

Last summer, a group of our then LXX students had just completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award assessed expedition in the Scottish Highlands when they asked: “What’s next?” After much discussion with Mr Welch, the answer was clear – something even more ambitious.

They are now midway through the UK Three Peaks Challenge, aiming to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within 24 hours. The challenge is in support of AngelmanUK, a charity close to their hearts. At the time of writing, they have already raised an impressive £2,553.

Having summited Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike, they are now en route down the M6 to Mount Snowdon in Wales, with just enough time left on the clock to complete the challenge.

You may even have heard their shout-out earlier today on BBC Radio 2!

Participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a vibrant part of life at Rugby School. Pupils begin in Year 9 with an introduction to outdoor pursuits such as climbing and kayaking, and many progress through to the Gold Award in the Sixth Form. This year alone, more than 80 students are undertaking Gold expeditions – further testament to our commitment to developing the whole person.

Participants in this challenge include: Leo (M), Luca (M), Jordan (M), Annie (RB), Ottilie (B), Jack (M), Albert (SF)
