Rugby head says VAT on fees should go to neighbouring state schools and charities
In an interview published in The Times today, Gareth Parker-Jones says that VAT on private education fees should be given to neighbouring state schools and charities rather than disappearing into a Treasury “black hole”.
He comments: “I am concerned that the VAT levied from the independent schools will disappear into a black hole. Governments like to talk about how keen they are to help ‘communities’ up and down the country. So how much more useful it would be if the money raised from our schools was distributed and spent locally…”
