Heartfelt poetry competition goes contemporary

Students at Rugby rose to the challenge to compete in the Poetry by Heart finals in the Old Armoury Studio this week.

An annual competition, students are set the task of reciting poems from memory within a given theme, which for 2023 was ‘contemporary poets’.

Former Rugby English teacher, Adam Naylor, was delighted to return to School as the official judge and admitted he found it hard to separate such a high standard of recitations.

In the end it was the day girls from Southfield who triumphed winning both the senior and junior titles.
