Pride in Every Moment: Reflections from the Head Master

In a recent assembly, the Head Master shared nine moments that have made him especially proud in these opening weeks – from academic achievement and leadership to the way students support each other in daily life. In his recent address to students, Head Master Gareth Parker-Jones shared nine things that have made him especially proud. Read his words from the latest assembly below.

“We have had a lot of awards and presentations today – each represents a significant achievement, but more importantly they are the result of effort, determination and dedication. Well done to you all.

I am not going to deliver a long talk, but I wanted to share nine points or moments that have made me really proud of the School in the first weeks of this term:

  1. The singing of ‘Guide me, O thou great Jehovah’ during the inspection week
  2. The wonderful combination of music, dance and poetry at Vivaldi’s Gloria
  3. The calm purposefulness with which you are approaching exams
  4. The way you are looking out for each other during exams
  5. Stanex and Schools of Empire – two very different, but exceptionally exciting academic projects
  6. Fearless cricket and the birth of what Mr Foulds has christened as ‘Ben Ball’, after U17 and boys’ First Team coach Mr Adams
  7. Mr Wood’s Chapel talk
  8. Student voice – and the contributions and leadership of Levee, Sixth, Hall, and many of you to House Councils
  9. Your brilliant hosting at lunch of the many visitors to the School we have. House dining is really special, and our visitors invariably comment on what fantastic hosts you are.”

Congratulations to all students for the energy, excellence and kindness you continue to show, both in the spotlight and behind the scenes.
