Rugby School Celebrates Exceptional Success in Sports Performance Pathways
At Rugby School, we are proud to showcase the exceptional achievements of more than 60 students currently involved in a sports performance pathway across rugby, hockey, netball and cricket.
In rugby, our students continue to excel, with pathway representation at Northampton Saints, Coventry RFC and Leicester Tigers. We are particularly delighted to recognise Oscar and Phoebe, whose selection for the England Rugby pathways reflects their outstanding commitment and potential. This summer, Oscar represented England U18 at the International Series in South Africa.
Our netball contingent remains equally impressive. Many of our players compete at county level, and this year we are delighted to celebrate Izzy’s selection for the Birmingham Panthers U17 NPL squad—a significant achievement reflecting her skill and dedication.
In hockey, both girls and boys continue to thrive. Eleven students currently represent the Sutton Coldfield Talent Academy, highlighting the depth of talent within the School. Additionally, we congratulate Seb, selected for England U18, and Fin, who represented Scotland U18 and competed in the U18 Euros during the summer.
Cricket at Rugby School is more successful than ever, following a historic achievement at Lord’s Cricket Ground in July, where both our Boys’ and Girls’ 1st XI teams were crowned National Cup Champions after an incredible season. We currently have 36 cricketers representing Warwickshire CCC, Yorkshire CCC, Essex CCC, Northamptonshire CCC, Derbyshire CCC, Hampshire CCC and Leicestershire CCC.
Our 1st XI Boys’ Captain, Rory, has been selected for the Scotland U19 squad for the upcoming U19 Cricket World Cup in January 2026, to be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Our 1st XI Girls’ Captain, Amelie, will be trialling with the England U19 squad in December. Recent ORs Amu Surenkumar (Warwickshire & Manchester Originals) and Niamh Robertson-Jack also enjoyed international success this summer, representing England U19 and Scotland ‘A’ respectively.
The tennis boys and girls have built on their successful summer at Eton with strong performances in the LTA National Championships for 11–13-year-olds this term. The 1st IV boys have won their group and have now progress to the Area Finals in the Lent term.
Rugby School has a proud tradition of developing athletes who progress to the highest levels of their sport. Our Rugbeians include standout performers such as Alex Grove, Emeka Illone, Ben Muncaster, Kofi Cripps, Jacob Bethell, Maia Bouchier, Jika Nyirenda, Clara Miles and Jane Sigobohla, all of whom continue to inspire the next generation of Rugby School athletes.
