Student wins major opera contest in France

A 17-year-old student has won a major opera competition held in France.

‘Concours Opera Jeunes Espoirs Raymond Duffaut’ in Avignon attracted 86 participants from 14 different countries to compete across three age categories up to the age of 26.

Miranda Robertson made it to the final in the age 16-18 category singing on the main stage of Opera Grand Avignon three times. Not only did she win her category, she was also awarded the public prize across all categories and chosen as the overall favourite by the host of the evening, French actress Charlotte De Turkheim.

Miranda has been asked to perform a paid one hour recital at the Opera Grand in April.
